I must admit, when I first got the email I had visions of Samantha’s disastrous facial peel on Sex and the City.

How wrong I was.

The Studio is situated in the Manchester Unity Building, so you are imbued with a sense of ease and luxury as soon as you step into the building. Minoo’s was established in 1986, and the director, Minoo Pirouzgar, has over 40 years experience in the industry.

The warm atmosphere would immediately set even the most anxious person at rest. (In this instance, me!)It was obvious as soon as I stepped in that each treatment is individually tailored to a client’s needs, and extreme care is taken to achieve maximum results.

My lovely consultant checked my comfort levels throughout the procedures, and carefully and courteously explained everything to me before each treatment. She started with a Skin Consultation using the Visia Digital Skin Analysis System. This is literally a machine that photographs and compares your skin characteristics to a database of other people with similar age, sex and ethnicity.

She then discussed the various percentages with me and what they meant. Unfortunately, I appear to have a higher percentage of early wrinkles! Noooooo.

She decided that my skin would benefit from a Microdermabrasion and Jetpeel treatment. They might sound scary, but they are actually painless.

The Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, gentle process of using crystals accelerated onto the skin’s surface to abrade layers of dead and damaged skin cells. It’s basically a deep exfoliation process. To describe it, it feels like having a slightly scratchy pen run over your face. It leaves a residue of crystals, which are then lightly washed off by the consultant.

The Jetpeel treatment was a bit more full-on. (I received the Jetpeel vitamin infusion treatment.)

Jetpeel takes saline and/or concentrated vitamin fluids, accelerates it using pressurised air to supersonic velocities and with a special handpiece-nozzle breaks the accelerated liquid into micro-droplets. The kinetic energy of the micro-droplets gently and painlessly exfoliates the outer later of the epidermis, and pushes the vitamin treatment into the skin.

It feels like having extremely cold air blown on your skin. It’s not the most pleasant sensation, but it’s painless and the results afterwards are amazing.

I looked a little blotchy, so a unique foundation colour was mixed for me on the spot using mineral make up. Although my skin felt a little tight, within half an hour I could already see results.

A few days later, and people are asking me if I’m pregnant because I appear to be ‘glowing’! My appearance is a lot smoother, and feels better hydrated and healthier.

I loved trialling the treatments. It was pain-free and delivered almost instant results.

You do need to pay attention to the aftercare instructions and be aware of possible side affects when you undergo a treatment, though. After a treatment you need to keep well-hydrated, avoid direct sun and basically be incredibly gentle to your skin.

But it’s totally worth it.
